"Our Number 1 pick for warm-weather hunts that don’t require the support of a calf-high hunting boot, and a great selection for pre-season scouting trips. Equally at home spring, summer and fall on everything from run-and-gun turkey hunts to stalking prairie pronghorns to long days chasing September’s bugles. Uninsulated, with tough, nubuck leather uppers and 100% waterproof Gore-Tex linings."
I have wide feet, so went with Comfort Fit Hiker that has wide version rather than Himalaya that has only regular width. First I ordered size 8.5 that I usually wear but the website recommendation is right! Size 8.5 was big, so I changed it to size 8 thanks to free exchange policy by Meindl USA. Size 8 fits perfect to me and very comfortable.
Here are some things for ones considering to purchase this.
1. It is very comfortable but it definitely needs break-in. It is made of leather, which is quite stiff out of box. You need to break it in before you go out for a long hike.
2. The gusseted tongue could cause some pressure on your feet when you tight the lace unless you position the tongue and fold gusset properly. This can improve as the boots break in.
3. The outsole is good at traction on dry rocks but not on wet rocks. Maybe it is because the boots are rated "B" rather than "B|C" as in Himalaya?
These hit the spot for feet that are bigger than narrow, but not extra wide. I tried on all the big brand boots at REI, but they were too narrow, and they did not have wide options. I used these trekking in Nepal and these were comfortable walking over lots of rocks.
This is my first pair of Meindl boots but it definitely won't be my last. They are well made, sized true, and comfortable. I absolutely love how they naturally coax your feet into a spring like heal to toe stride.
My first Meindl boots were the Cabelas Perfect Hiker. I got 8 good years out of them. I never hesitated to buy the same boot now directly from Meindl. I just completely a 9 day hunt in the Mountains of UtT. The were comfortable gave good support and completely waterproof walking in ankle high snow.
My first Meindl Light Hikers, came from Cabela's. My second pair of Meindl Light Hikers, Came from Meindl. I bought these Hikers, as I wanted to try the German boots. All of them fit Perfect, and are extremely comfortable. I like them all equally well. I'm sold on Meindl for life! Thank you for outperforming, and excelling above all others! The quality of your products show that you don't cut corners. Keep doing what you're doing! Thanks Meindl!
P. S. The card and notes that you put in your packaging really mean something!
At Meindl we know that quality boots are a significant investment. That is why we are so committed to educating our customers on the best methods of care to make sure your boots continue to perform at their peak and last for years to come.
All Meindl Boots come out of the factory treated and ready for you to get out. However, if you want to ensure the boots are in peak condition from the moment you hit the field you can give them a quick treatment with our Meindl Wet Proof and let that sit for 24 hours and then apply Meindl Sport Wax.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT heat Sport Wax before applying. Doing so can cause it to penetrate too deep and impair the leather’s breathability and wearing comfort. DO NOT apply oils or grease on any of our boots. There are two reasons: First, oil and grease products can cause boots to lose strength and stability. Second, oil or grease will migrate throughout the leather which can cause the rand and outsoles to delaminate from the boot.
Quality boots deserve care and attention. Read our full article to learn how to maintain your Meindl boots from beginning to end.
