Boot Care — From Beginning to End
Boots — really good boots — are an investment. Meindl is committed to helping you through every step of that investment: selecting the right boot, getting the right fit, and keeping them performing at their peak for years to come. You’ve done the hard work of choosing your boot. Now it’s time to protect that investment. Here are four simple steps to do just that.
Step 1: Before the First Use
When your boots arrive and you’ve confirmed the fit (see Choosing Your Meindl Boots or call us at 1-833-563-0101), it’s time to start the break-in process. All Meindl boots leave the factory treated and ready to wear. But if you want them in peak condition from day one, apply Meindl Wet Proof, let it sit for 24 hours, then follow with Meindl Sport Wax. Tip: Remove the laces before applying any treatment so you can reach every crease and cranny.

Step 2: Clean and Inspect Your Boots
Remove the insoles and dump out any loose dirt or debris. Pull the laces so you can reach every part of the boot. Using a soft brush, clean loose dirt from the outside — then use warm water and the brush to tackle any stubborn mud. Pay extra attention to the welt area where the upper meets the sole. Next, clean the inside with warm water and a sponge — rocks, pebbles, and debris can damage the Gore-Tex liner over time. Once clean, inspect for damage — nicks, separated rand, broken stitching, or deep gouges. Minor rand separation can be fixed with boot-repair glue if caught early. Deeper damage may need a cobbler.

Step 3: Waterproof and Condition Your Boots
Suede Leather: Allow boots to air dry until the leather is still slightly damp — this is the ideal moment to treat. Apply Meindl Suede Conditioner & Proofer while damp so it penetrates the open pores deeply, conditioning and waterproofing in one step. Let dry naturally for 24 hours — do not use artificial heat.

Nubuck Leather: While still damp after cleaning, apply Meindl Wet Proof. The open pores absorb the treatment best when damp. Let sit for 24 hours in a room-temperature area. After 24 hours, apply Meindl Sport Wax with a sponge, working it into all creases, the tongue, welt, and metal hooks and eyelets to prevent corrosion.

Sport Wax is made with a natural beeswax base — one of the oldest proven leather treatments. It preserves the natural qualities of leather, prevents drying and cracking, and does so without clogging pores.
Important: Do not heat Sport Wax before applying — doing so causes it to penetrate too deeply and can impair the leather’s breathability.
Warning: Never apply oils or grease to Meindl boots. These products weaken boot structure and can cause the rand and outsoles to delaminate.
Step 4: Drying and Storing Your Boots
After cleaning and treating, let your boots dry slowly with the tongues wide open in a room-temperature, low-humidity area. Never use direct heat — no radiators, heaters, fireplaces, or heated boot dryers. Wet leather is very sensitive to heat and can crack and lose performance. For faster drying, loosely stuff newspaper or absorbent paper into each boot and change it frequently as it absorbs moisture.
Store boots in a cool, stable, dry location. Avoid attics, garages, and any hot or damp spaces. Long-term storage is one of the worst things for boots — Meindl boots are built to be worn. Even a short walk during the off-season keeps the materials moving and in good condition. Final warning: Keep your boots away from fuels, oils, manure, and fertilizers. If they come into contact with these materials, clean them as soon as possible.
