Frequently asked questions
We recommend ordering a half size smaller than your usual sneaker size. If you've worn Meindl before, stick with the same U.S. size you've purchased in the past. For full details on getting the right fit for each style — including width options and arch considerations — see our Sizing Guide or contact us and we'll walk you through it.
We're based in Sidney, Nebraska and welcome visitors at our retail location. If you're passing through, give us a call at 833-563-0101 and we can set up a personal shopping appointment. Not nearby? Our online store ships anywhere in the U.S.

About Meindl USA
The majority of our boots are handcrafted by skilled artisans at world-class manufacturing facilities in Germany. A small number of styles are produced elsewhere — specific origin is noted on each individual product page.

Sizing/Fitting Questions
Visit our Choosing Your Meindl Boot and Flex-Use Rating pages for guidance. Still not sure? Call us at 1-833-563-0101 — our team has years of experience in the field with these boots and is happy to help.
We recommend Meindl Socks made of a Merino wool blend for walking, hiking, or strenuous climbing. Merino wool is durable, soft, temperature-regulating, breathable, moisture-wicking, and naturally antimicrobial — ideal for a wide range of conditions. And yes, you can wear them just about anywhere.
Every Meindl boot is constructed with a specific use in mind — walking, hiking, hunting, trekking, mountaineering, and more. Meindl was the first manufacturer to develop Flex-Use ratings for boots. Visit our Flex-Use Rating page to find the right stiffness for your activity.
Once you've confirmed the fit, start by walking for more extended periods on familiar terrain — around the block or on an easy trail. Then gradually increase weight and mileage over time. A helpful rule of thumb: aim for 10–20 miles before a big hike.
Comfort Fit Technology features an anatomically designed last with more room in the toe box and width at the ball of the foot — ideal for keeping toes straight. It provides a snug heel fit and a stable platform for uneven terrain. See our product pages or technology pages for a full comparison.
Meindl boots are built on European lasts, which run slightly longer and wider than most U.S. footwear. We recommend measuring your feet with a Brannock device while wearing the socks you'd typically use on the trail. Our Perfect Fit App —walks you through it to get your Meindl size.
Wear the socks and insoles you plan to use on the trail, then lace up snugly. Check that the tongue and gussets lie flat. Walk around indoors and confirm there's no pinching or binding, your heel stays in place, and your toes have room to move without sliding forward.
Boot Care/Maintenance Questions
Meindl uses Gore-Tex waterproof breathable membranes, which are highly durable and backed by Gore-Tex's guaranteed-to-keep-you-dry promise. Please note that not all styles include Gore-Tex — confirm this on the individual product page before purchasing.
Clean and dry your boots thoroughly before storage. Store in a cool, dark, dry environment — avoid extreme temperatures and damp locations. We don't recommend long-term storage; get them out and use them in the off-season. They'll thank you for it.
Remove laces and insoles, then brush off debris with a soft-bristled brush. Wipe the interior with a clean damp cloth. Allow to dry in indirect heat only — never in direct sunlight, near a campfire, or with an electric heater. For detailed care instructions, see our Boot Care page.
First clean your boots thoroughly. For waterproofing, apply Meindl Wet Proof spray — note that boots with slightly damp pores absorb product better than fully dry ones. Allow 24 hours to fully activate, then wax with Meindl Sport Wax for conditioning. Avoid oils and greases, as these can damage the leather.
For waterproofing: Meindl Wet Proof spray. For conditioning: Meindl Sport Wax. Avoid oils and greases.
Boot Repair Questions
Most Meindl footwear can be recrafted. Check each product page to confirm resolability. If purchased elsewhere, email us at info@meindlusa.com with photos of the boots to help us determine if recrafting is possible.
We're not able to resole boots through our office directly, but we work with trusted cobblers across the U.S. and Canada:
- Daub's Cobbler Shop — 24 Canal Street, Laconia, NH 03246 | www.shoesrepairnh.com | 1-603-528-1528
- DeVito's Shoe Repair — www.vincedevito.ca (800) 337-1622
Reach out to your cobbler directly to arrange service.
Resoling typically runs between $175 and $225 depending on the labor required. Pricing is set by the individual cobbler — not Meindl USA — and may have changed, so confirm directly with your cobbler before sending your boots in.
The process typically takes two to six weeks from start to finish, not including shipping time. Confirm the timeline directly with your cobbler when arranging to send your boots in.
Guarantees are determined by the individual cobbler. Our cobbler partners are independent businesses, and Meindl USA does not guarantee their work. That said, we only recommend cobblers we trust — and we encourage you to confirm any warranty terms with your cobbler before proceeding.
Yes, the rubber rand can be replaced and the leather can be conditioned. Arrange this with your cobbler at the time of resoling.
