What size of men's boots/shoes should I order?

For help finding the perfect fit for each style, please reference the sizing guide on each product page. We typically recommend ordering a half size smaller than you normally wear in sneakers. All our sizing online is ordered based off U.S. sizing. If you are still unsure, review our Meindl Sizing page for more details or send us an email with your questions and we will help you choose your perfect fit.

Where are the Ultralight Hunters?

The Ultralight Hunter that Meindl previously carried was discontinued in 2021 due to quality concerns. In the long absence of the Ultralight Hunting boot, Meindl USA developed our newest lightweight boot, the EuroLight Hunter. This boot was designed in response to bring back a lightweight hunting boot by Meindl USA. Our team has worked with Meindl’s design team to build this lightweight boot directly in Europe for improved quality in materials and craftsmanship. We’re excited to offer this boot in both insulated and uninsulated versions as well a ladies option.

We recommend ordering this boot in the same size as your current boots. With Meindl's Comfort Promise we want our customers to experience the unmatched comfort, quality and perfect fit that Meindl is known for. If the size you do order is too large/small, we offer free and easy returns as it’s important to us that you are in the right boots to experience proper fit and comfort we offer. We do ask that the boots are returned in new condition: not worn outside, tags still attached and sent back in the original box.

Are there Fraudulent Sites selling Meindl products?

It has come to Meindl USA's attention recently that there may be multiple fraudulent, online retail websites posing as dealers of Meindl products in the U.S. As the exclusive dealer of Meindl hunting and hiking boots in the U.S. our products are only sold directly through our website, meindlusa.com. These other fraudulent sites normally have names similar to ours and may appear as a legitimate dealer, willing to accept payment through multiple channels as well may request sensitive information of yours.

Our team will continue to work to have these sites reported to the proper authorities and removed to protect our loyal Meindl customers. Should you come across any of these sites don't hesitate to let our team know, by emailing us directly at info@meindlusa.com, or by filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. And remember if you see a deal that looks too good to be true it probably is!

Sizing and Fitting

How does Comfort Fit last fit vs. Meindl Standard last fit?

Comfort Fit Technology is designed to keep feet comfortable under all conditions. Crafted around an anatomically designed last. Comfort Fit creates more room in the toe box and more width at the ball of your feet to keep your big toes straight at all times. This also makes for a wider, more stable platform for walking on uneven or difficult terrain. The shape of the last ensures a snug fit at the heel that keeps feet securely in place. The boot's well-defined contour also aids in the stepping process, helping propel your feet (and you) forward when walking.

Meindl Standard Fit (Used for our Vakuum Hunter boots) are designed with a more narrow fit compared to our Comfort Fit technology boots. Constructed with our proprietary memory foam system (MFS), these boots conform snuggly to the shape of any foot, surrounding the foot in foam, and achieving optimal comfort and fit distribution across the entire foot surface.

How do I properly measure my foot?

Meindl boots and shoes are built on European lasts/forms, which are slightly more generous in length and width than most typical footwear designed and built in the U.S. When possible, we recommend having your feet measured with a brannock device while wearing the type/weight of socks you will most often wear with your Meindl boots. This will provide a true size for fitting your Meindl footwear and you will be able to order accordingly. Visit our Meindl Sizing page for more information.

Don't have access to a Brannock device - Click on the below link for Meindl's printable version of a Brannock to measure your feet in the comfort of your own home.

How do I determine if my boots fit?

First, wear the socks and insoles you plan to wear on the trail and lace up your boots snuggly, but not uncomfortably tight. Check to make sure the tongue and gussets are straight and snug against your feet, then walk around indoors for a while. When walking indoors, make sure there is no pinching, binding, your heel stays put and your toes are not hitting the front of the boot. If you have concerns about the fit of your boots, please email or call us and we will help determine if the fit is right for you.

How do you recommend I break in my boots?

Once you have determined the boots fit correctly (See the above FAQ, How do I determine if my boots fit?), and you have decided you are going to keep the boots, start walking in them for more extended periods, perhaps around the block or on a light trail hike. The final break-in state is to slip on a light daypack and hit the trail. Gradually increase both the weight and mileage during your next few trips as your boots continue to break in and mold to your feet for a comfortable custom-like fit.

What is the stiffness of my boots?

Every Meindl boot is constructed with a specific use such as walking, hiking, hunting/trekking, mountaineering, etc. Meindl was the first manufacturer to develop Flex-Use ratings for our boots, this is the best way to determine what style is going to be best for you and your chosen activity. Not only do we categorize our boots on their flex ratings but we also classify all our boots regarding their specific use. To learn more, see our Flex-Use Rating page to help you determine the best boot for your adventure!

What boots should I buy?

If you have a trip planned (or want to discuss general use) and you're unsure what boots to get, visit our Choosing Your Meindl Boot as well as our Flex-Use Rating page for more information. If you still have questions give us a call (1-833-563-0101), we have years of experience with field use in our boots and can make sure to get you in the right boot for your next adventure.

What socks should I wear?

Whether you are walking, hiking or undertaking strenuous climbing on or off trail, we typically recommend socks made of a Merino wool blend. The benefits from Merino wool are unmatched. Durable yet soft (not itchy like traditional wool), it has temperature-regulating and insulating properties ideal for keeping you comfortable in a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions. It's also very breathable and wicks perspiration and moisture away from your skin. This properly makes it naturally antimicrobial and helps limit odor, a plus in the backcountry. Well, that's a plus anywhere.

Boot Care and Maintenance

How do I maintain my boots?

Prep your boots by removing the laces and insoles so you can easily reach concealed areas. Wash off any large debris, soft bristled brush to clean the remainder of the boot. Once the exterior is clean, clean the interior by wiping with a clean, damp cloth. Cleaning the interior is important and it does not damage the liner - and it will help with hygiene. Once the boots are clean, they should be allowed to dry in indirect heat. DO NOT dry them in direct sunlight, next to a campfire or use an electrical heater. Leather is a natural product that can be impacted by direct heat and can be easily damaged if not dried properly. To dry the wet interior, stuff the interior of the boots with dry newspaper which will absorb moisture. Be sure to remove the newspaper after a few hours. For more information visit our page How To Maintain Your Meindl Boots.

How do I treat my boots to assure durability and performance?

To treat your boots you should start by thoroughly cleaning them. (See the FAQ How do I clean my boots?). Once you have correctly and completely cleaned your boots, you can begin waterproofing and conditioning them.

Waterproofing - It is always best to waterproof your boots when they are not quite dry as the pores on the leather are more open, making the process more effective. Waterproofing takes around 24 hours to become fully effective. You will still want to make sure you wax your boots AFTER the waterproofing process is complete. For waterproofing, we recommend using Meindl Wet Proof.

Conditioning - The leather on your boots will last longer and perform better with a regular application of leather wax. We recommend using Meindl Sport Wax. Apply the wax with a clean sponge or cloth, making sure to thoroughly wax the tongue as well. Do not warm the wax, this can cause the wax to penetrate too deeply and thus impair the breathability of your boots and the natural comfort of the leather. DO NOT apply oils or grease to your boots as this can result in them losing strength and stability. Hooks and eyelets deserve special attention and application of our Sport Wax will help protect against corrosion.

What product do you recommend to treat my boots?

For waterproofing, we recommend using Meindl Wet Proof. For conditioning, we recommend using our Meindl Sport Wax. Absolutely no oils or greases.

How do I properly store my boots?

To properly store your boots, we recommend first making sure the boots are clean and treated correctly before putting them away. Second, make sure you are choosing the right environment. Our boots should be stored in a cool, dark and dry environment. Extreme temperatures and damp locations can ruin the integrity of the boots. We DO NOT recommend long term storage, get out and use the boots during the offseason. Our last piece of advise is to use wooden shoe trees while your boots are in storage. Shoe trees will help maintain the shape of your boots until the next season.

Are your boots/shoes waterproof?

Meindl utilizes the top-of-the-line waterproof, breathable membrane from Gore-Tex. Gore-Tex membranes are very durable and are guaranteed to keep you dry with Gore-Tex guaranteed to keep you dry promise.

Boot Repair

Are my Meindl boots resolable?

The majority of Meindl USA line of footwear can be recrafted. If you have questions regarding your specific boots, please reference each product page to determine if your boots can be recrafted.

If purchased from a different Meindl retailer you can email us directly at info@meindlusa.com or one of our recommended cobblers below. When emailing please include pictures of the boots to help us determine if these boots can be recrafted. At time boots can be too beat up, mistreated, over conditioned, etc. to a point where a boot is unable to be recrafted. By including pictures, it will help determine the quality of your specific boot.

How much does it cost to resole my boots?

Typically, the cost of having your boots recrafted can range anywhere between $80 and $175, depending on the extent of the amount of labor required. The price for the resole service is determined by the individual cobbler and not set by Meindl USA.

How long does it take to have my boots resoled?

The amount of time varies on how busy the individual cobbler is, the type of service needed, as well as the shipping time. The normal recrafting process takes two weeks from start to finish excluding the shipping times. However, please confirm with the cobbler when arranging to send your boots in.

After my boots have been resoled is there a guarantee of craftsmanship?

This is determined by the individual cobbler used to recraft your boots. The cobblers used are independent companies and Meindl USA does not guarantee the craftsmanship of any cobbler.

Can the rubber rand be replaced, or the leather conditioned as part of my boots being resoled?

Yes, the rubber rand around the boot can be replaced as well as having the leather conditioned. Arrange this with your cobbler at the time of resoling.
