My wife and i walk trails and logging roads six days a week until the NW Montana snow gets too deep. I have been through Merrells, Obozs and Keens. My 6’-5” 260# frame just destroys them in a year. The seams all blow out and the “Goretex” (or equivalent) leaks like a sieve. The Alpine 4.1 is a beautifully designed and constructed boot that does not have seams in the stress points and includes a tough rubber rand protecting this area. The upper is leather and can be treated with traditional waterproofing if need be. After wearing lightweight hikers for years i found these boots quite stiff initially. I have about 75 miles on them now and although i am used to the stiffer feel i think they still have some breaking in to go. The “Air Revolution technology” seems to be a gimmick. These boots are very warm even though they are not insulated. If there is air circulating in there, great, but i cant tell it. I expect to get more than a year out of these and better given the price.
I purchased these because I refuse to purchase merchandise in Asia especially, China. I was going to pay a lot of money for boots so I wanted the best. The U.S. brands didn’t compare to these. Not broken in yet so some blocks are 4 and not a five at this point.
After numerous trials, I think I have found my perfect boot. I wore them around the house for about 4 hours and then went out the next day on a 5 mile hike (about 500 feet of ascent) with some bushwhacking. My feet felt great during and after the hike. Toe box was comfortable and I had zero hotspots. I like the "Air Revolution" concept, hiking in Northern Arkansas in the summer can lead to some sweaty feet, hopefully these boots help with that issue. A winner from Meindl~
Very comfortable, fit just like my hunting boots. Wearing perfect right out of the box.
At Meindl we know that quality boots are a significant investment. That is why we are so committed to educating our customers on the best methods of care to make sure your boots continue to perform at their peak and last for years to come.
All Meindl Boots come out of the factory treated and ready for you to get out. However, if you want to ensure the boots are in peak condition from the moment you hit the field you can give them a quick treatment with our Meindl Wet Proof and let that sit for 24 hours and then apply Meindl Sport Wax.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT heat Sport Wax before applying. Doing so can cause it to penetrate too deep and impair the leather’s breathability and wearing comfort. DO NOT apply oils or grease on any of our boots. There are two reasons: First, oil and grease products can cause boots to lose strength and stability. Second, oil or grease will migrate throughout the leather which can cause the rand and outsoles to delaminate from the boot.
Quality boots deserve care and attention. Read our full article to learn how to maintain your Meindl boots from beginning to end.
