    Removable tongue insert?

I really like this boot so far, with one minor exception. I found the sizing to be smaller than my other Meindls (5 other pairs are all the same size) and I had to return them for a half size bigger. I'm still on the fence about the tongue. It is removable/replaceable and is velcroed into place. I found the velcro on the end of the insert (near the base of my toes) fairly uncomfortable at first, but it is getting better as the boot is getting broken in. I do like that it can be removed so you can place it where it is most comfortable. I think I would prefer the tongue insert to be permanent, I think it would ultimately be more comfortable without the bump the velcro creates. I was unaware about that feature of the boot, it was not in any descriptions I read before purchasing. I've only had this boot a few weeks so far and have not really put it to the test in steep country, so I am withholding judgement and may revise this review later after the boot is truly broken in. But it is a quality boot and well made, as Meindls are known to be.

Very comfortable boot, pretty stiff at first. broke in fairly quickly though, got about 15 miles on the boots so far, holding up very well and breaking in very nice.
